Wanderings in the desert - Royal Escape - Rajasthan

Wanderings in the desert - Royal Escape - Rajasthan

This happens to be my first thread on Team-BHP despite being a member for a long time. And what better way to start this with a travelogue detailing our experiences as part of the Royal Escape being organised by Mahindra Adventure (on the lines of the Monastery Escape).

I will try to keep this as an intro post giving some details about the planned route, places where we would be staying and (possible) sights and sounds.

Well, for some of you already familar with the format of these 'Escape' events, every team gets to drive around in their own 4x4 vehicle to some exotic location(s). In the process, you savour the places along the way, enjoy the local food and do all the typical touristy things (photography, posing et al). For my better half and me, this is our first new year together and we can't think of a better way to spend it.

The organisers have set the ball rolling with a round of introductions of all participants and the list is rather interesting! There are auto-journos, motorsport enthusiasts and of course some of our own Team-BHP members (Jaggu, the mod himself!). All in all, some fun company who are experts behind the wheel!

The route planned is as follows:

28th Dec – Delhi to Bikaner – stay at Laxmi Nivas Palace (~500 kms)
29th Dec – Bikaner to Jaislamer – stay at Desert Tulip Hotel (~350 kms)
30th Dec – Jaisalmer to Munwar Dessert Camp (~300 kms)
31st Dec – Munwar to Shekhawati – stay at Alsisar Mahal (~300 kms)
01st Jan – Start from Shekhawati and return to Delhi (~260 kms)

(All distances sourced from Google Maps. I shall update them after the actual travel (please feel free to correct me in the mean time)

Here is a glimpse of the palaces that have been picked for staying through the journey. They look so good in the pictures, can't wait to feel their majesty and aura up-close.

PS: All images sourced from the respective official hotel sites

The next post will be when I am back from the trip chronicling all the details. Wish everyone a merry christmas and a very happy new year!
