Maruti Ertiga (RIII) MPV might be unveiled at the 2012 Indian Auto Expo
At the last edition of the Indian Auto Expo in 2010, the star attraction from the Maruti stable was the RIII MPV concept which came with a very versatile interior packaging that has many swooning over it as the next big game changer from Maruti. Circa 2012 and after plenty of toning down to make the radical concept a solid production reality along with a name that sounds more like a disease than a car, Maruti could launch the Ertiga MPV that will seat seven at the upcoming 2012 Indian Auto Expo, making it a deja vuof sorts. The Ertiga, previously known as the RIII concept, is said to be based on the Ritz, from which it seems to take inspiration in the styling department. The Ertiga is an MPV that is expected to be priced between INR 6-9 Lakhs, thus undercutting the competition(Read, Toyota Innova and the Mahindra Xylo) by quite some measure even though the Maruti Ertiga is a much smaller MPV when compared to the Innova or the Xylo. That there is no product in the INR 6-9 Lakh category worth the salt for the family MPV buyer to take a pick from makes the Ertiga a solid offering in the MPV space. With the Maruti badge on the bonnet along with both petrol and diesel engine options, the Ertiga could make quite a splash. The petrol engine is a 95 Bhp-130 Nm unit of Maruti's largest displacement K-Series petrol engine yet, the 1.4 Liter K-series unit. The diesel engine will be the tried and tested 1.3 Liter Fiat Multijet unit producing 90 Bhp of peak power and 200 Nm of peak torque. The only chink in Maruti's armor seems to be the labour trouble that India's largest car maker is beset with, that could potentially delay the launch of the Ertiga MPV. One that hurdle is overcome, the Ertiga could be the next big thing from Maruti, that could be loved by family MPV buyers and cabbies alike. ChopShop Source : indiancarsbikes.in |
