Skoda Citigo small car will not be launched in India confirms Skoda India

Skoda Citigo, a small car based on the Volkswagen Up platform was expected to hit Indian streets after its initial unveiling at the 2012 Indian Auto Expo. However, Skoda seems to have changed its plans for the new small car’s entry into the Indian scene as a Skoda India top executive has reportedly told NDTV's Siddharth Vinayak Patankar that Skoda does not even plant to showcase the Skoda Citigo at the upcoming 2012 Indian Auto Expo.

This could only mean that Skoda India will first wait for Volkswagen to launch its new small car, the Volkswagen Up in India sometime in 2013 and based on the success the Volkswagen Up receives, Skoda India will decide the future of the Citigo in India.

As far the Skoda Citigo is concerned, it is essentially a rebadged Volkswagen Up with the exterior design taking its similarities with the Skoda Fabia hatch and the recently unveiled concept: MissionL. Powering the Skoda Citigo will be the same 1.0L 3-cylinder petrol engine found in the Volkswagen Up churning out a peak power of 59 Bhp and 74 Nm peak torque.
