World's safest car
Well, not really :P This never went into production but I think this was a wonderful initiative by a government who wanted to push for change, leading by example . How The U.S. Government Killed The Safest Car Ever Built A short summary of what the link contains - This is a car designed by the US government in 1966 as a model showcasing all available and future concepts of safety they expected the automotive industry to adopt of the next two decades - Airbags, non-collapsable seats, impact absorbing bumpers, radar based anti-collision (In 1966!) etc. They curiously however did not include seat-belts (which were already invented by then). This even came packed with gullwing doors and looked pretty retro-futuristic in my opinion - a lot like the Delorean. Just wanted to share this link with the group, more pictures and videos are there in the link, enjoy ! |
