2013 Chevrolet Beat EV – A few details emerge

2013 Chevrolet Beat EV – A few details emerge

GM has released a little bit of information regarding its upcoming Beat EV battery powered electric car. At present the only information we have on hands about the electric Beat is regarding the electric motor that will be used to power the 2013 Chevrolet Beat EV.

Only a tiny morsel of info was given on the Beat EV, but we now know its permanent-magnet electric motor will produce 114 hp, some 31 hp more than the conventional Beat's gas-fired 1.2-liter four-cylinder. While that doesn’t sound like much, we must keep in mind that the Beat’s cousin – the Spark EV concept – only had 60 hp (45 kW / 61 PS).

GM recently launched an electric-car demonstration project in China, South Korea, India and Germany. Developed under GM's "tailored for India" program, the Chevy Beat Battery Electric Vehicle debuted in New Delhi in June.

Another point to keep in mind here is that the Indian Chevrolet Beat is sold as the Chevrolet Spark in other countries, so once the “2013 Chevrolet Spark EV” is available in select U.S. and global markets, we can expect a production ready battery powered Beat EV to make it into India sometime in 2014.
