Skoda Rapid Sedan launch in India on the 16th of November, 2011
Skoda India has finally disclosed the launch date of its new sedan, the 2011 Skoda Rapid, in India. To be launched on the 16th of November, 2011, the Skoda Rapid is based on the Volkswagen Vento Sedan and will fit into the C-segment car market in India. As of now production of the Skoda Rapid Sedan is already underway at Skoda's Chakan plant in Pune. Powering the Skoda Rapid Sedan will be a 1.6L petrol and diesel engine derived from the Vento. The engines remain the same 1.6 Liter petrol and common rail turbo diesel units, both producing 105 Bhp of peak power while the peak torque for the petrol and diesel engine are 153 Nm and 250 Nm respectively. Both these engines will be mated to a five speed manual gearbox as in the Volkswagen Vento. While petrol variant of the 2011 Rapid Sedan will be getting the six speed dual clutch automatic gearbox, it remains unclear whether Skoda will be offering the automatic gearbox on the diesel engine as well even though there have been some rumors suggesting that Skoda might also launch a Rapid Automatic in diesel guise. The Rapid, which will be built alongside the Vento in Volkswagen's Chakan plant will also share most other features and equipments like the dashboard and interiors with the Volkswagen Vento. Stay tuned for updates on features and pricing structure. |
