Price of Petrol in India hiked by Rs. 1.82 per litre from today
Ever since the de-regulation of petrol prices last year, oil companies have been hiking prices every time the global crude oil prices have risen. This time around, when global crude oil prices have come down, the state run fuel retailers like Hindustan Petroleum, Indian Oil Corporation and Bharat Petroleum have hiked petrol prices once again by as much as Rs. 1.82 per litre effective from today. The main reason behind the hike can be traced to the fact that the US dollar has appreciated steeply in comparison to the Indian Rupee. With India relying on more than 85% of its oil requirements as imports, the state run fuel retailers have had to shell out more to buy crude despite of the fall in crude oil rates. Pushing for the hike, oil companies had said they were losing Rs. 1.50 per litre on petrol and after including local levies, the desired increase in retail prices was Rs. 1.82 per litre. This will be the fourth increase in gasoline prices this year. The three state firms, who tend to move their prices in tandem, last raised gasoline prices by about 5 percent in September.
